Responsibilities
• Provide strategic counsel to Renaissance leadership on media engagement, reputation management, and communications.
• Communicate Renaissance’s capabilities, achievements, and thought leadership to build preference with external stakeholders.
• Develop and execute credible media relations strategies that reflect Renaissance’s business priorities and Africa-wide ambitions.
• Monitor and influence external trends, issues, and risks through proactive engagement with media stakeholders.
• Ensure reputational opportunities and risks are identified early, mitigated, and integrated into business planning.
• Lead the Media Relations team, fostering collaboration across Renaissance’s corporate functions.
• Deploy a robust 24/7 media management strategy tailored to Renaissance’s independent operations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Nigerian and international journalists, correspondents, and media houses.
• Maximise positive coverage of Renaissance and minimise negative exposure through proactive storytelling and strategic campaigns.
• Organise press conferences, product launches, facility visits, and media briefings to showcase Renaissance’s operations.
• Provide crisis response capability at national and regional levels, ensuring Renaissance’s voice is clear and credible.
• Train and coach company spokespersons to effectively represent Renaissance in the media.
• Write speeches for Renaissance leadership, ensuring alignment with company narratives and strategic messaging.
• Oversee editorial review of technical and non-technical papers, assessing disclosure risks and ensuring messaging consistency in line with approved company narratives.
• Oversee both traditional and digital media channels, including social media platforms, to ensure consistent messaging and effective engagement.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in mass communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or a related field
A minimum of 14 years’ experience with a deep understanding of the Nigerian political and media landscape, with awareness of regional dynamics.
The successful candidate should have
• Proven experience as a journalist or in corporate communications within complex organisations.
• Extensive frontline experience handling media enquiries on sensitive or controversial issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to craft compelling narratives.
• Strong networks within the media industry.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and influence senior stakeholders.
• Experience in issues management and crisis communications.
• High personal integrity and resilience.
• Membership of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is required.
