The Head of New Business Development (NBD) supports the General Manager, NBD in delivering Renaissance’s strategic ambition to drive industrialization through the development of profitable midstream, downstream, and alternative energy businesses.
The role brings an investment and transaction discipline to directly manage deal origination/pipeline, opportunity screening, maturation, commercial structuring, stakeholder engagement, and modelling/economic analysis across gas, oil, power, and decarbonization opportunities. It acts as the Deputy to the GM, providing leadership continuity and representing New Business Development in strategic meetings, governance sessions, commercial negotiations, and partner engagements in the GM’s absence.
The role is critical to expanding Renaissance’s presence in the domestic and export gas markets, building off‑taking industries, and enabling value capture across the hydrocarbon value chain.
Responsibilities
• Understand the export gas, domestic gas, gas utilization markets as well as the oil and condensate sectors and their respective value chains.
• Coordinate strategy execution across opportunity pipelines.
• Drive alignment across finance, commercial, legal, technical, and planning units.
• Support negotiations for commercial agreements including GSAs, tolling, equity participation, MoUs, and partnership frameworks.
• Identify, mature, and deliver profitable and sustainable deals along the hydrocarbon value chain.
• Build partnerships that generate strong demand for Renaissance’s hydrocarbon resource base.
• Optimise supply to both export and domestic opportunities to achieve optimal value.
• Position Renaissance as a leading profitable player in the rapidly expanding domestic and export gas markets.
• Identify and assess opportunities that move Renaissance’s business beyond upstream operations and help advance initiatives that create value in midstream and downstream segments.
• Support the growth and management of the midstream and downstream gas portfolio, advancing commercial opportunities and forging strategic partnerships to maximise value derived from the value chain.
• Identify potential customers, evaluate their demand profiles, and support the structuring of commercial deals and partnership frameworks that align with Renaissance’s industrialisation and domestic market development objectives.
• Contribute to defining new commercial opportunities including potential equity participation, joint ventures, and the development of midstream and downstream businesses by conducting commercial assessments, preparing business case submissions, and supporting early-stage decision making.
Strategic Scope
This role contributes to shaping Renaissance’s midstream and downstream growth strategy by maturing opportunities that extend value from upstream production into industrial applications. It contributes to the company’s wider goal of promoting industrialization and supporting energy security by providing commercial analysis, coordinating cross-functional inputs, and supporting the development of new markets for Renaissance’s gas resources. Key outcomes include credible opportunity maturation, strengthened commercial insight, improved internal alignment, and measurable contribution to the growth of gas demand and downstream ventures.
The role assists in building credible domestic and export gas opportunities (non NLNG) by contributing to demand creation efforts, supporting partner engagements, and helping evaluate strategic investments in off taking industries.
Success in this role will be measured by the quality and timeliness of commercial analyses delivered, effectiveness in supporting the maturation of domestic and export gas opportunities, contribution to building new partnerships, and the role’s impact in advancing strategic investments leading to growth in domestic and new export gas market shares.
Portfolio Size and Complexity
The position supports the General Manager in managing a diverse portfolio of commercial opportunities, partnerships, and strategic initiatives across the midstream, downstream, and domestic gas value chains. It plays a critical part in coordinating inputs, conducting commercial and economic evaluations, and helping ensure effective alignment across internal teams and external stakeholders.
Notably, domestic gas demand supplied by the Renaissance Joint Venture (JV) is projected to rise substantially from around 0.2 bcf/d to 1 bcf/d by 2030, driving an increase in revenue over the same period.
Midstream & Downstream
• Requirement to develop credible and profitable off-taking businesses for 500 MMscfd of gas before 2030.
• Strategic investment in gas, oil and alternative energy off-taking businesses (e.g. fertilizer, refineries, LNG, LPG plants) to enable success and to accrue value.
Advocacy for industrialization.
Requirements
§ A University Degree in Engineering or the Sciences (B. Sc., B Eng.), with a minimum 15 years of broad oil and gas experience, including 10+ years in any of the following: transaction advisory/Private Equity/investments/downstream or midstream, commercial or engineering
§ Master’s in Business Administration or Executive Education equivalent from reputable institutions will be an added advantage.
§ CFA charter or progress toward one is a nice to have.
§A demonstrated track record of taking opportunities from identification through commercial deal structuring, negotiation and maturation to Final Investment Decision.
§ Minimum 5+ years handling oil and gas commercialization opportunities, transactions or roles.
§ Strong understanding of Nigeria’s energy sector, gas markets, regulations and commercial frameworks.
§ Experience leading collaboratively a cross-functional teams and interfacing with senior executives.
